Bowel Resection: Minimally-Invasive Techniques
A bowel resection involves removal of section of the bowel which can involve the small bowel, colon or rectum. This may be required for benign conditions such as diverticular disease and malignant conditions such as colorectal cancer. Minimally invasive approaches via laparoscopic and robotic techniques are offered to appropriate patients.
Capsule Endoscopy
Imaging of the small bowel is conventionally achieved by using a capsule endoscope. A disposable, single use camera the size of a paracetamol capsule is swallowed by the patient and continuous video images are recorded over the course of a single day by transmission to a wireless belt recorder.
Colonoscopy
A colonoscopy is an optical examination of the lower gastrointestinal tract using a video camera known as a colonoscope. During this procedure the large bowel, or colon, and the end of the small bowel tract, or terminal ileum, can be inspected. Colonoscopy is an important bowel cancer screening and diagnostic tool.
Gastroscopy
A gastroscopy is an optical examination of the upper gastrointestinal tract using a video camera known as a gastroscope. Gastroscopy is also known endoscopy, panendoscopy or oesophagogastroduodenoscopy. Gastroscopy is offered when patients have upper gastrointestinal symptoms, unexplained iron deficiency or anaemia.
Hernia Repair
A hernia occurs when the inside layers of the abdominal muscle have weakened, resulting in a bulge or tear. Common types of hernia include inguinal, umbilical, and incisional. Our surgeons are experts in various hernia repair techniques, including minimally invasive or keyhole surgeries.
Inflammatory Bowel Disease Management
Inflammatory bowel diseases encompass a spectrum of autoimmune bowel disorders including Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, and indeterminate colitis. Treating IBD requires a multidisciplinary team approach. GastroHub specialists provide the multidisciplinary care required for IBD patients.

To treat the pain and infection it is sometimes necessary to remove the gallstones together with the gallbladder. Our surgeons specialise in performing laparoscopic (keyhole) gallbladder surgeries to expedite recovery time.
